This month, we’re highlighting key developments across psychology and related sectors, including important national initiatives and calls for change that may impact both practitioners and the people they support. From neurorehabilitation to mental health guidance, these updates reflect ongoing efforts to improve access, standards and outcomes across the UK.
The BPS’s Division of Neuropsychology and 18 neurological charities/ professional bodies have endorsed Thriving not Surviving: A Right to Neurorehabilitation, the UK statement of 10 principles to improve neurorehabilitation for people living with progressive neurological conditions. Estimates suggest that 1 in 6 people in the UK live with a neurological condition with limited access to rehabilitation options due to lack of resources and long waiting lists.
Mental health organisations and professional organisations have joined forces to request urgent updates to the guidance for generalised anxiety disorder and panic disorder for adults, which includes young adults and those with SEN. The current guidance published in 2011 fails to reflect significant changes in treatment and needs a full revision to bring it up to date with current needs and practice.
These updates highlight the importance of continued advocacy, collaboration and development within our profession. We will continue to share relevant news and developments to keep our members informed and connected.
